Spring Cleaning for Your Brand: What to Audit Right Now

Spring cleaning isn’t just for junk drawers and closet clutter. It’s also the perfect time to step back and take stock of your brand presence, especially if it’s been months (or, let’s be real, years) since you’ve updated your messaging or even glanced at your website like a potential client would.

At CBPR, we work with brands of all shapes and sizes — no matter how buttoned-up you are, every business can refresh once the flowers bloom and the inbox buzzes again. Here’s a no-nonsense, smart-boss checklist to help you spring clean your brand and set yourself up for success this season.

1. Website First, Always.

Start where most people find you — your website. If it’s giving 2021 energy, it’s time. Pull it up on both desktop and mobile and run through these quick questions:

  • Does the homepage clearly say what you do and who you do it for?

  • Is your branding (colors, fonts, tone) consistent with what you’re putting out on social?

  • Has your media page been updated with recent press or relevant features?

  • Are all your links, CTAs and forms working?

  • Are the images high-quality and consistent in appearance and style?

This is also the time to make sure your About page reflects the version of your business today — not the one you created with an iced coffee and big dreams years ago. And if you're still rocking a templated design with stock photos? It’s giving “DIY side hustle,” not “media-ready brand.”

2. Update Your Bio Like a Grown-Up

Whether you're a founder, a CEO, or someone who wears 10 different hats on any given day, your bio matters; it's what reporters, investors, collaborators and clients use to sum you up. And yet, most people slap something together once and never touch it again.

Now’s the time to:

  • Add recent accomplishments, milestones, or features.

  • Refresh your headshot (even if it means bribing your friend with a DSLR).

  • Clarify your “why” and bring some personality into it.

Remember: people connect with people. Your bio should sound like you on a good day — not like a robot who loves “leveraging synergies.”

3. Check Your Socials (Yes, All of Them)

Are your Instagram and LinkedIn bios consistent? Are your pinned posts still relevant? Are you posting content that reflects the direction your business is going, not just where it’s been?

If social media is part of your strategy (hint: it should be), then take this time to:

  • Archive outdated or off-brand posts.

  • Re-pin high-performing content or testimonials.

  • Clean up your highlights and make them skimmable.

  • Double-check that your link-in-bio still works.

Consistency matters more than perfection. You don’t need to be on every platform — just make sure the ones you are on reflect the best version of your brand.

4. Google Yourself — Seriously

Put your name and business name into Google and see what comes up. What shows up on the first page? Are the images accurate? Are any old directories or outdated features floating around?

Things to do:

  • Claim and update your Google Business Profile (if you have a physical location or service area).

  • Contact sites with outdated listings and ask them to update your info.

You want to own that first page of results as much as possible — especially if you’re pitching media or attracting new clients who are doing their homework.

5. Refresh Your Messaging + Offers

Sometimes, it’s not your visuals or photos that are holding you back—it’s the way you talk about your brand.

Has your audience evolved? Have you shifted focus? Are you still offering services or packages that don’t reflect the work you actually like doing?

Take a look at your:

  • Service descriptions

  • Pitch decks or one-pagers

  • Elevator pitch

Ensure your copy is current, demonstrates your value and is emotionally resonant. This is also a great time to tighten up your positioning — the more clearly you can articulate your value, the easier everything else gets (from PR to social to sales).

6. Retire What Isn’t Serving You

That freebie you made in Canva back in 2022? That offer you thought people would love but never actually sell? That awkward blog post that gets zero views but keeps showing up in your analytics?

Let it go.

Part of spring cleaning your brand means visually, mentally and strategically making space. Archive, delete, or sunset anything that feels off-brand, off-message, or unnecessary. It’s okay to evolve. It’s expected.

7. Get Press-Ready

If you dream of land media coverage this year, you must be ready when the opportunity knocks. That means:

  • Having a clear, short press bio ready to go

  • A high-res headshot and logo on file

  • A Google Drive folder with links to recent features or testimonials

  • A point of view — not just a product or service

Pitching is faster and smoother when the back-end stuff is already done. Preparation makes all the difference.

TL;DR: Spring is the Time to Get Your House (and Brand) in Order

The sun is out, your audience is coming out of hibernation, and Q2 is the perfect time to reset your brand’s vibe. Think of this blog post as your permission slip to update, edit, delete and refine — not because your business is broken, but because you’re growing. And your brand should grow with you.
